Shocker: I hate capsule wardrobes. I know. I’m a frugal blogger. I should be on board with the trend.

Capsule wardobes are so, I don’t know, restrictive and impractical. The idea of decluttering your life is nice, but I think there are better ways to achieve this.

For those who may not be up on the lingo, capsule wardrobes include a list of must-have basics that are interchangeable. The idea is to decrease the amount of clothing waste while decluttering one’s closet and expanding one’s budget based on the premise that one cannot wear all the clothing hanging in the closet.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good basic. Fill your closet with classic basics, and you’re good to go.

I advocate a less restrictive approach.

As part of my frugal fashion tips, I encourage purchasing basics with classic cuts and wearing trends through your accessories instead.

I’m starting a new series (one of many) on expanding your wardrobe. It’s also a social experiment to determine how long my blog titles can stretch before my readers tune out.

This week’s post — bracelets.

I mentioned bangles and stackable bracelets as part of my effortless must-haves.

I mean, you can’t tell me it’s not effortless and stylish. Look at that awesomeness:

There’s no way it doesn’t make a statement. Bracelets can really dress up any outfit, no matter how basic.

The bracelets I’m wearing the picture is Boho Betty. Boho Betty is a UK-based company with globally-inspired beaded bracelets. The bracelets come in a few different styles — wrap, magnetic clasp, button clasp, tassel, and buckle (yeah, really — it looks as cool as it sounds). The collections range from boho to edgy to classic to yoga-inspired to glamorous. Most of the line uses leather, but there is a vegan collection as well.

Statement jewelry is the easiest way to dress up an outfit. Arm candy is really trending right now. You don’t have to pile all of the bracelets on one arm like I did. That was purely for demonstration purposes only.

Here are a few ways you can use bracelets to your advantage:

As a pop of pattern to a basic color palette

(or in this case, to chic-ly display your school spirit)

Wrap bracelets that are long enough can double as a choker

(Chokers are in this season. How’s that for utility and saving money!)
